INTRODUCTION

The Taste of West Cork Food Festival was launched in 2004 as a celebration of local, traditional and speciality food and of the cultural forces that shapes its production, retailing and consumption. Now in its fourth year the acclaimed festival has expanded its innovative programme to include an annual seminar series entitled FOOD|CULTURE.

Viewing food through a wider cultural prism, the seminar will seek to assess the economic, social and environmental synergies that are fundamental to vibrant functioning local economies. The inaugural event assembles a panel of distinguished international and national commentators, each of whom will offer informed perspectives and opinion that will seek to define and discuss Ireland's food culture. The seminar series has as a core objective an analysis of the characteristics, dynamics, opportunities and challenges that influence how food is produced and consumed in Ireland. Interactive panel discussions will allow delegates the opportunity to explore our food heritage, its origins, evolution and protection as well as considering the changing socio-cultural notions of consumption and sustenance.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
The conference will be of interest to anyone with an interest in Ireland's food culture and in the role that food production, it's marketing, retailing and consumption plays in shaping our society and economy.
Delegates attending the seminar will also have an opportunity to engage and participate in a wide range of activities and events scheduled for the food festival. Take time to relax and discover why West Cork is truly a place apart. Full programme details can be found at www.atasteofwestcork.com
