Use of the Fuchsia Brand by an Outlet

For excellence in promotion and presentation of the branding initiative.

Sponsored by Food Safety Authority of Ireland

Winner:

Field's of Skibbereen

For many years Field's have been outstanding in their support for local produce and within the context of the brand have been a testing ground for new ventures such as the Gallán cream cheese, Walsh’s Natural Juices and Skeaghanore Duck. They were also actively involved with Fuchsia and local beef producers in piloting the West Cork Beef Quality Assurance Scheme. Reflecting their cosmopolitan customer base they carry a range of speciality food probably unrivalled by any other Supervalu store.

Other Nominees:

Aer Rianta, Cork

In 2001 Fuchsia Brands Ltd. approached Aer Rianta Cork to explore opportunities for working together. Aer Rianta quickly saw the potential for their store which is used largely for gift shopping. They could see the attraction to returning visitors of local produce that was strongly branded as such. Fuchsia Brands Ltd. commissioned a dedicated shelving unit incorporating the logo and brand colours and selected producers stocked it with a range of products suited to the gift market. In tandem with this Fuchsia Brands Ltd. began a series of tastings that ran fortnightly through the summer. Aer Rianta facilitated Fuchsia Brands Ltd. in reaching a wider audience by bringing the shop out into the departures lounge where the non-travelling public had equal access. In addition to the ambient goods the outlet also carries most of the local cheeses and Ummera smoked salmon.

Manning's Emporium, Ballylickey

A remarkable store that is very much an extension of the owner Val Manning. There is always something new to try and experimentation is encouraged by Val’s enthusiasm for food. He has shown great loyalty to local producers and has been a valuable source of advice in the honing of many of our fine products. For years Val has been instrumental in shining the spotlight on West Cork food through his annual food and wine fairs. In so doing he has involved Fuchsia Brands Ltd. extensively and sought to give its members prominence.

Collins Supervalu, Carrigaline

Collins of Carrigaline have demonstrated a commitment to listing local produce and using the Fuchsia Brand that is based on a strong belief in the commercial value of doing so. The Carrigaline store operates in a more competitive environment than most other stores in West Cork due to its proximity to the city. The solution has been to finely tune its offering to reflect local demand and create a sense of community. In conjunction with Fuchsia Brands Ltd. and nominated local charities the store has run two very successful food and wine evenings. Fuchsia Brands Ltd. also featured very prominently in the launch of the new store last year with fifteen companies sampling produce instore.

Martin Carey, Bandon

Martin Carey has built up an enviable reputation for the quality of his meat and prepared dishes. He has pioneered the use of insotre traceability information for meat. Last year he took a natural but very deliberate step by working with Fuchsia Brands Ltd. to incorporate a range of complimentary local products. He has been very keen to use the brand identity to sell these food items, running a open day in the shop when a range of Fuchsia produce was tasted and using the brand to publicise his store with a colour feature in the Southern Star. Carey’s are currently carrying 12 Fuchsia members, far more than any other butcher shop.
